New Work: Custom Dresser and Nightstands

I recently wrapped up these casegoods, completing a Toronto client’s bedroom set. You can see the king bed that goes with the set in a previous post.

We pulled out all the stops for this project and opted for the best of everything. Hand carved pulls and dovetailed drawers are some of these features, you’ll see here.

New Work: Custom Standing Desk

New Work: A custom Standing desk in North American Beech and powder coated steel.

I’m very happy to see this completed; the beech looks really great against the RAL 7033 powder coating, which was chosen by the client (she could not have chosen a more perfect color, in my opinion). The color of the powder coating has a long military history, including german war tanks and submarines and dates back as far as WWII. The use of a unique color for furniture is refreshing to say the least and it’s a welcome change from the standard black or white that is usually chosen for powder coating.

The shape of the frame is another unique element that I was happy to incorporate into the design of the desk; I enjoy using rigid geometry and architectural structure in my furniture work and it’s not often that I get to, so I was very pleased to have the chance with this project.

I think this will win for my favorite project of the year.

My long weekend personal project: A low stool, my take on a shaker farm stool. Quarter sawn white oak seat, hand turned white oak legs, wedged mortise and tenon joinery, natural oil and wax finish.
